Our Commitment to Privacy

Virtual Court Kiosks are present in locations throughout Texas. They are a result of the Virtual Court Access Project at the Texas Legal Services Center.

We, at the Texas Legal Services Center, are committed to protecting your privacy when using the Virtual Court Kiosk.

Information We Collect

We collect anonymized information about how people use the Virtual Court Kiosks through tracking tools such as Google Analytics.

The word β€œanonymized” means that the information can not be identified with a specific person.

We also collect information from voluntary surveys.

In the event any information is shared, with a funder, to report on project results, it is β€œanonymized”.

How We Use Information That We Collect

We use the information that we collect to:

  • Evaluate the Virtual Court Kiosk and Virtual Court Kiosk User Interface for potential improvements.

  • Provide anonymized result information to our funders in compliance with the grants that fund the Virtual Court Kiosks.

The Virtual Court Kiosk User interface provides links to many other websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other websites.

Virtual Court Kiosk Privacy Protections

We take several measures to ensure your privacy is protected when using a Virtual Court Kiosk.

These protections include:

  • Software that ensures that if a user walks away from a Virtual Court Kiosk, the Kiosk will reset itself and wipe all user data/files/inputs from the system after a set period of time (20 Minutes).

  • Software that ensures that each time a Virtual Court Kiosk session is ended all user data/files/inputs are wiped from the system.

  • The live chat system has been modified to wipe all user data after each chat to ensure privacy.

  • All public-facing host sites where users are able to do their remote hearings at, are required to provide a private space to ensure others cannot overhear their meetings.

  • Headphones are provided to further protect user privacy.

Virtual Court Kiosk User Privacy Guidelines

  • When on Virtual Meetings/Court Hearings make sure to wear the headphones, if possible. This acts to protect your privacy.

  • Make sure any door(s) to the private space is(are) closed before signing on to a Virtual Meeting/Court Hearing.

  • Email yourself or print out any files you need once your hearing is done.

  • Make sure to end the session when you are done. This will ensure all your files, user input, and history are wiped from the system.

  • Make sure to gather up any printouts and other documents/files you may have brought with you as you leave, so you do not leave any behind for someone else to find.

  • The general policy of the Virtual Court Access Project is that any documents left behind and found by host site staff are shredded upon finding, to protect user privacy.
